McQueen's "Bullitt" tweed on sale
It's coming up for sale at Bonhams Scottsdale (Arizona) Auction on January 16th 2014, and interest is likely to be high. McQueen wore this jacket in the 1968 movie, Bullitt, and can be seen wearing it in various scenes during the now famous car chase (1968 Ford Mustang GT 390 versus a 1968 375 hp 440 Magnum Dodge Charger).
He didn't handle every aspect of that legendary drive around San Francisco. Old friend and stuntman Bud Ekins (naturally) handled most of the really tricky stuff. But Ekins's jackets ain't worth a fraction of McQueen's, which in many eyes is a shame. But cool is cool, and McQueen has it in spades (although here at Sump, we're just yer ordinary uncool classic bikers and never really caught that particular McQueen bug and prefer the likes of Lee Marvin and Charles Bronson).
Anyway, you can register an interest if you want a crack at this "wool tweed herringbone three-button jacket with suede elbow patches" which is said to be the most famous tweed in movie history.
As for the "cool", you either got it or you ain't got it, and there are some things that even Bonhams can't auction.
