We're looking to start compiling motorcycle events for 2022. But things being what they are, what with the coronavirus still at large, we're not expecting a lot of activity. All the same, we'll list what we can, as we can. And of course, keep in mind that before visiting any shows or events, you're strongly advised to check with the organiser.

Kickback Show

Prescott Bike Festival, Gloucestershire GL52 9RD
Custom bikes galore from bobbers to choppers to cafe racers to retro customs to classics. This looks like an abbreviated event. It was a two day gathering. But it's now just the one; Sunday. Nevertheless, you might as well get it while it's going and help build it for next year.
Open: 10am - 1.30pm, and 1.30pm - 5pm
Admission: Saturday £8 adult, Sunday £15, Weekend £22. We don't fully understand the wider pricing structure at this event. So check it for yourself. Better still, visit http://www.ticketsource.co.uk and enter kickback in search button. The organiser hasn't been in touch lately to confirm pricing. Also, we notice that the original Kickback website is dead. So it's Facebook or nothing, and Facebook is a turnoff (for us, anyway).

July 2021

1st July 2021, Thursday

Boston Bike Night

Boston Town Centre, Lincolnshire.

This is the 25th gathering. It was scheduled for July 2020, but Covid-19 put paid to that. The organisers are now promising a bigger and better event than ever before. Not an awful lot happens at this gathering, note. Nothing dramatic, anyway. But it's a chance for bikers from near and far to come together and socialise, etc, in the time-honoured way. And there are some trade stalls/food stalls. It's okay for an hour or two. Probably no more than that.

Open: 16.00 - 21.00

Admission: Free. Just arrive and park.

Berkshire Motor Show

Prospect Park, Liebenrood Rd, Reading RG30 2ND

This event (at the time of writing this listing, 6/5/21) seems to be in the planning stage. The organiser is looking for more support and entrants, from classic cars, to classic bikes to trucks, etc. Traders are also welcome. So if you're in the wider area, you might want to get involved here at some level—possibly as support staff. We're listing this show simply to try and help biking and related motoring events get back to "normal". Before you leave home, better check that it's definitely going ahead.

Here's what the  organiser says: "Join us for our postponed Rideout. Sponsored by Smiths Honda, this event will see hundreds of bikers travelling together along a 50 mile route to reach the Hospice. Starting from Smiths Honda, Whitchurch Road, Chester at 10am, you will ride to the mid-point stop at Anderton Boat Lift, Northwich where lunch will be served, and participants can chat and admire the other bikes (depending on government guidelines). From there, you will make your way back to the Hospice of the Good Shepherd where the raffle will be drawn."

Admission: £10 includes registration in the ride out with bike and standing marshals, lunch and drink, raffle ticket and a souvenir pin badge.

Tewkesbury Classic Vehicle Festival

Tewkesbury School, Ashchurch Road, Tewkesbury GL20 8DF

The Rotary Club of Tewkesbury are staging this classic vehicle festival. The event, we're told, is the Rotary Club's biggest charity annual fundraiser which raises thousands of pounds for both national and regional charities.
Expect over 1000 classic vehicles drawn from all eras ("dawn of motoring, pre-war, post-war, American classics, custom cars, hot rods, supercars, motorbikes to modern stuff"). Specifically, over 200 classic bikes are promised or expected. Also on the billing are trade stands, an autojumble, live music, a dance floor, a bar, hot food—and all as secure as the relevant Covid-19 guidelines demand. And if the event is cancelled due to the virus, you'll have 30 days to claim a refund, or your ticket will be shifted to 2021. Note that trade stands pitches are 3m x 3m, cost £30 and are "available to book via the website and always sell out!". One more thing: leave the mutt at home.

Open: 9am - 4pm
Admission: £5 per person in advance (on the gate price £7.50). Children under 12 years old go free.

East Anglian Copdock Motorcycle Show

Trinity Park Showground, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP3 8UH.

This will be the 29th outing for this highly entertaining "not-for-profit" event. If you've been following the UK motorcycle press, you'll see that there has been some juggling of dates for this and "rival" shows. That in turn led to some mutual agreement to re-schedule the meetings. But, subject to another lockdown or partial lockdown, the Copdock date now seems fixed. And certainly at this moment (1st May 2021) Covid-19 in the UK appears to be in heavy retreat. Meanwhile, there will be a large autojumble, show bikes, club stands, trade stands. Attractions include Ken Fox’s Wall of Death, Dougie Lampkin display, 2 Bros MC Stunt Team and The Imps Display Team. Suffice to say, if there was one essential show to visit in the UK in 2021, this is probably it. See Sump’s report form the 2013 Copdock Classic Motorcycle Show.
Open: 9am to 6pm.
Admission: £10 on the gate. £8.50 from the website. Under 14s free.

January 2020

1st January 2020, Wednesday

New Year's Day Classic Gathering

Brooklands Museum, Brooklands Road, Weybridge, Surrey KT13 0QN.

This is primarily a car event. But that doesn't mean a few classic, custom or otherwise funky motorcycles aren't welcome. The organisers invite pretty much all comers and are expecting over 1,000 vehicles. They reckon it's the largest New Year's day event of its kind in the UK. On the agenda is a winter barbecue, a variety of other food franchises (including a cafe or two), live music, show vehicles (car, bikes and trucks), special displays, clubs, etc. Assistance dogs only, note. We should mention that there are all kinds of terms, conditions and privileges regarding non-members and members, so we suggest you scrutinise the website very closely and see if it suits your needs and disposition. At any time of the year Brooklands is an interesting place to visit and hang out. But if you're planning to visit the museum, you'll be expected to hand over the usual fee of £14.50 for an adult. That, we think, is the advance price. But check. The entire pricing structure leaves us wanting. Also note that the museum applies a "gift aid" admission price of £16 (which irritates us because we think there's something sly/sharp about this concept, chiefly because it puts additional pressure on visitors. We understand why they do it. But we just don't like it). So ask what the standard price is and get that clarified if it's important to you. There is some info on the website regarding the gift aid scheme.

Open: 9am - 4pm
Admission: Adults £14.50 advance/£16 on the gate—and a miserable £1 off for seniors and students. See the gift aid note above—and check those prices. There's some confusion here.

New Year's Day Classic Gathering

Stony Stratford, Buckinghamshire, MK11 1BE
If you're riding a pre-war bike or pre-war car (presumably pre-WW2), and if you live, work or play in the Milton Keynes area, you might be interested in a new year's gathering at the village of Stony Stratford. This is an informal meeting, so don't expect too much organisation, etc. It's just a street hangout to shake off some of the post Christmas dust and blues and get the new season started. But note that you're also welcome if you ride/drive something newer (or even up to the minute). But there are demarcation areas. Admission/attendance is free. But someone will be rattling a collection tin for a local hospice, so bring a little spare change (or a spare fiver or so). If you get cold, there will be food and drink available at local pubs, and you can expect a few stalls catering to your needs. This is the eleventh anniversary of the event.

Rugby Bikefest 2020

Ken Fox's Wall of Death is the star attraction this year. His family, we're told, has been touring and entertaining since the 1920s. His wall is 32 feet in diameter and 16 feet high, and it's made of wood. A lot can go wrong if his riders get it wrong, but they seem to know what they're doing, and it's always entertaining to watch. Meanwhile, we'd like to tell you more about this event, but the organiser isn't giving much away. But Rich Warren, operations director of Rugby First, said: "This is the sixth year that Bikefest has roared into town and it is such a great spectacle. From the ‘Ride In’ to the stalls, displays, children’s entertainment, funfair, live music and food, Bikefest is a day out that the whole family can enjoy." Around 8,000 people are expected.

Mission Not So Impossible – Santa’s Toy Run

Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum, Bashley Cross Rd, New Milton, Hants BH25 5SZ

Here's what the organiser says; "The Mission Not So Impossible is not a charity but our local bikers doing what they do best, and that is helping others. The Mission supports Refuges in Dorset, Hampshire and the New Forest Women’s Refuge ensuring that families who find themselves there over Christmas have presents to open – especially the children. The refuges are bleak places and families often find themselves taken from their homes in the middle of the night with just the clothes on their backs. So we are asking for presents for mums, dads, teenagers, young children and babies to be delivered to us here at the Museum on or before 6th December. Please save the date and help those in need at this time of the year. Further information will be posted on our website as we approach the date."
Open: 10am until 2pm

It's unique (as far as we know) and has been downloaded thousands of times from both the Sump website and the website of the Sunbeam Motor Cycle Club. Think of it as poetry in motion. It's a treat.
