Watsonian Squire T100 sidecarDecember 2015 Motorcycle combination | Bonneville | Meriden
It's gotta be tricky coming up with new sidecar product ideas and marketing ploys. A sidecar is a sidecar is a sidecar? Right? Well not according to Watsonian Squire which manufactures these chairs with the same kind of enthusiasm that, say, creates a Savile Row suit. Like the suits, these sidecars are not exactly off the peg, they're all essentially the same, and yet they're all slightly different. That's bespoke retail for you. Or simply call it niche manufacturing. Either way, this new Savile Row outfit is designed specifically for the T100 Triumph Bonneville, and it will suit all bikes from 2000 - 2015. But if you're thinking of hitching your wagon to a new 2016 Bonnie, you'd better first chat with Watsonian Squire. There might well be differences in the fiddly bits, specifically relating to Watsonian's own subframe.
The chair is called The Meriden (named after some old bike factory in Warwickshire or something). It really ought to be called The Hinckley, but Hinckley is in Leicestershire, and Watsonian Squire, we're told, has a tradition of naming their sidecars after Warwickshire "settlements" (which doesn't explain the firm's Monza, Grand Prix, Meteor or Squire models; but let's not upset anyone tonight, huh?). This sidecar is based upon the aforementioned Monza which was launched in 1965. There's a tubular steel frame under the stylish glass fibre, and you can opt for a traditional 19-inch sidecar wheel with stainless steel spokes, or a 17-inch cast wheel intended to match the T100's cast wheel option. The lamps (front and rear) are designed to emulate the Bonnie's lights. The weight is 198lbs (90kg). The colour scheme (as shown above) speaks for itself. The price? Well, we've no guidance at all on this. So you'll just have to call Watsonian Squire. Or if you're quick, you can doorstop 'em at the Motorcycle Live show at the NEC, near Birmingham. It runs until 6th December 2015. Okey dokey? www.watsonian-squire.com — Big End |
