Sumpster Julian Ashdown suggested that we might want to post his tips, tricks and advice on maintaining your Triumph TSX, which we do. We've no way of knowing how long this information will be relevant, so you'll just have to check. Thanks, Julian. Frame: Standard T140E with welded bracket to take rear master cylinder (easily fabricated, and similar to the Harris Bonneville). Chainguard: Available from TriCor at a reasonable price, or eBay/Klempfs (for considerably more money).
Swinging arm: Unobtainable, although Clive Humphries sold dozens of these in the 1980's so they are out there.
Rear brake torque arm: Try the usual parts suppliers. Supreme Motorcycles had some a couple of years ago. They're slightly longer than T140E arms, but the T140E arm can be lengthened.
Shock absorbers: Same as Paioli as used on the Harris Bonneville (but without the top shrouds). They're easily available on eBay. Make your own top shroud.
Engine spacers: Re-manufactured by L F Harris and available from many suppliers. L P Williams are excellent and VERY helpful.
Headlight mount: Unobtainable. Try eBay.
Headlight shrouds/indicator mounts: Do what Triumph did. Use the 1980 headlight brackets, cut off the threaded stubs and weld on support tabs.
Morris cast wheels: Check eBay (see comments above about Clive Humphries; he sold dozens of these too).
Front discs, 5-hole fixing: Available from Hawkshaw motorcycles and others on eBay. Standard T140E discs are 4-hole fixing.
Rear brake lever: Klempfs.
Rear master cylinder (Brembo): Same as fitted to many Ducatis, Laverdas. Guzzis. Check eBay, or use one without integral master cylinder (which always turn up) together with a remote reservoir which can be mounted beside the tool tray.
Rear master cylinder operating arm: Grins Triumph.
Rear master cylinder rod and linkage: Same as Harris Bonneville. Try.Klempfs, or Grin Motorcycles.
Rear brake spindle: Hawkshaw, Klempfs or eBay.
Seat: Klempfs, or Burton Bike bits, or many others.
Petrol tank: See comments above concerning Clive Humphries (above), or buy Indian repro and re-work.
Petrol taps: Paioli, also used on Laverdas. Try eBay or Laverda dealers. OMD in Italy make passable replicas.
Petrol cap: Stainless version available from Holden Automotive (as a car part for about £16.00!), or try eBay (similar to BMC Mini item and Guzzi California).
Side panels: Same as Harris Bonneville. Reg Allen had some unfinished ones available a year ago simply needing trimming. Otherwise Klempfs.
Side panel badges, capstans: Hawkshaw Motorcycles.
Aluminium air box covers: Same as Harris Bonneville. Klempfs did have some, and the covers regularly come up on eBay. You may need to adapt to suit Bing intake profile.
Rear mudguard: Burton Bike Bits, Triumph Twin Spares, Klempfs
Front mudguard: Same as T140D but painted, available from many suppliers. Front mudguard brace: Fabricate from flat strap or use T140D one (eBay).
Rear grabrail: TriCor, Klempfs or eBay.
Rear light alloy mount: Unobtainable, but re-contour the standard T140 rear mount (Reg Allen did mine).
Rear light steel mount backing plate: Klempfs or Reg Allen.
Rear number plate plastic mount: Unobtainable. Try eBay.
Notes: Triumph Twin Spares (Mark Francis) is an excellent supplier, as is Klempfs (although postage is expensive). Many parts appear on Danish and Dutch eBay sites and even Australian sites. Other USA suppliers also turn up the occasional part (for example Dotlers). Persevere and eventually everything will come up. This may be useful to those looking to restore or re-create a TSX. Engine parts are standard T140E and readily obtainable. For a machine with a production run of 480 (give or take) it's surprising that many parts can still be obtained over 30 years after its inception. - Julian Ashdown
