The 10th Golden Era Run

This gathering is organised by the North East Section of the Vintage Motor Cycle Club (VMCC), and it will be centred at the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington, near York. The focus is the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. For 2018, an additional theme will be the role played by allied motorcycle in various theatres of war over the past century, but more notably during WW1 (note that the VMCC requires run participants to ride machines at least 25 years old). Motorcycles and three-wheelers manufactured before January 1931 are eligible. The event was founded by VMCC members Noel Whittall and Ian Jennings. Riders are invited to come along and enjoy the Yorkshire Wolds in the best way possible; i.e. on a classic bike. No details have been offered regarding times, so just get there as early as possible and/or check with the VMCC.

31st August & 1st September 2018, Friday to Saturday

25th Carole Nash Eurojumble

Netley Marsh, between Cadnam and Totton, Hampshire SO40 7GY.

This is one of the biggest jumbles of the year. Mortons own and run this one, and we're advised that 300 traders showed up last year. Charterhouse Auction will be flogging a few bikes. Plenty of bikers and traders from mainland Europe always make the trek across the channel. Note that there's plenty of under-the-wire trading going on here, meaning that dealers get in ahead of the hoi polloi and whip the cream from the cake. Generally speaking, there's still some pretty useful stuff kicking around. But if you haven't been in a long time, you could be in for a disappointment. Things change, and not always for the better. Don't take our word for it, however. Check it out for yourself.

Open: From 9am.

Admission: No prices have been given. You're simply advised to book, and if that's the only option, that's another strike against Mortons (Tip: chances are there will be a gate price).

1st & 2nd September 2018, Saturday & Sunday

Beaulieu Autojumble

National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, New Forest, Hampshire, United Kingdom
SO42 7ZN.

The organisers claim there will be 2,000 stands and reckon that this is the biggest car-focussed jumble on the European side of the Atlantic. Certainly, this event is huge.

Open: Early entry on Saturday from 9am (public entry at 10am). Early entry on Sunday from 8.30am (public entry from 9.30am). But you need to be a premium ticket holder, etc. Closes at (just) 4.30pm.

Admission: Complicated pricing from £13.35 - £100, all of which include entry to the Beaulieu attractions (Motor Museum, gardens, restaurants, etc). Note that "for the prevention of crime" visitors may be liable to a search—and if that doesn't spoil the vibe and persuade you to stay at home and mow the lawn instead, you've got tougher sensibilities and a more forgiving nature than us.

What's it all about? Well, it's a photoshoot of the world's greatest veteran motorcycle run with poetry and quotes from Ixion to John Masefield to William Shakespeare to William Wordsworth. It's unique (as far as we know) and has been downloaded thousands of times from both the Sump website and the website of the Sunbeam Motor Cycle Club. Think of it as poetry in motion. It's a treat.
