Route 66: The Mother Road
It wasn't our first Route 66 road trip. Twenty years ago we rolled down the most famous highway in the world delivering cars from New York City to Chicago to Los Angeles, and then back east to Philadelphia, Washington, and finally completing the 7,000-odd mile journey at New York City. Like everyone else, we'd heard the hype and were looking to make the modern day pilgrimage along "The Mother Road", aka "The Will Rogers Highway", aka "Main Street America", aka "The Great Diagonal Way". What we found was that Route 66 is actually more than a destination. It's also an event. A benchmark. In 2016 we returned to see what had changed. Here's the story...
