It's the first all-new flat track racer for 44 years. That's the world from Harley-Davidson which has just released details of its liquid-cooled, XG750R. Propelled by the 750cc Revolution X™ V-Twin engine, this bike is set to do battle on the US dirt ovals, and it will debut on Saturday 29th May 2016 (which could actually be Sunday 29th because the press release appears to have day/date confusion). It's "strictly for race competition" says H-D and won't be available for general sale. The engine has been race-tuned by the factory, and Vance & Hines Motorsports helped develop the frame. Kris Schoonover, Harley-Davidson's racing manager said. “After decades of flat-track racing success behind the Harley-Davidson XR750 flat track motorcycle, we knew it was time to develop the next-generation Harley-Davidson to compete in one of the best spectator racing sports out there today.”

Factory riders include David Fisher and Brad Baker. Fisher will campaign this bike, while Baker will continue to strut his stuff on the current XR750.

But how important is this new flat tracker for Harley-Davidson. Well it's pretty important. H-D has invested a lot of time and money into the new 750cc V-twins, and racing is still a surefire way of increasing exposure. Moreover, a successful season on the dirt will help increase the new bike's credibility as a bona-fide member of the Harley clan.
