USS Milwaukee Hog28th November 2015 Softtail Slim S | Harley-Davidson | Custom ◄PREVIOUS STORY NEXT STORY►
The Yanks have just launched the new 3,500 metric tonne USS Milwaukee (LCS-5). It's a Freedom Class littoral combat ship, and the fifth ship in the US Navy to bear the name "Milwaukee". But what does littoral mean? Well, it means "close to the shore", or "in inshore waters". To mark the occasion, a customised Harley-Davidson has been commissioned bearing US Navy motifs and colours. It's intended to emulate the kind of bikes that navy servicemen might have been familiar with in the post-WW2 era. We can't see that the above Softtail Slim S model has anything at all to say to ex-WW2 servicemen. But the bike does have another welcome purpose. Following the commissioning of the USS Milwaukee on 21st November 2015, the bike is headed for shows around the USA before being auctioned with the proceeds going to the Military Families Association.
Beyond that, the Hog reinforces the close link between HD and the US military, is good for sales and morale, and makes Uncle Sam very happy. ◄PREVIOUS STORY NEXT STORY► |
