ATTENTION!! Due to the situation in the Ukraine, we're having problems maintaining tyre stocks, and we're faced with rapidly increasing prices—which we're not happy about passing on. So no more orders until further notice. Sorry, but we have to face certain realities.
Avon Roadrider Mk2 ● Free delivery!!● New tyre construction
|
According to Avon, the Roadrider Mk2 is suitable for bikes of all ages. Technically speaking, that might be true. But tyres are like shoes; they have to look right as well as feel right. Consequently, you can argue that these tyres are more suited to modern classics, retro bikes and contemporary roadsters—and therefore less so for traditional classics.
But we don't quite see it that way. When it comes to tyre rubber, we think its best to bias buying decisions much more toward function than form. As such, we wouldn't have any qualms about fitting these to Hinckley Bonnevilles or Meriden Bonnevilles or Small Heath BSAs or classic Norton Commandos or the latest Royal Enfields—subject to fitting the correct sizes. Staying shiny side up is what matters. Feeling and looking cool comes later.
On the other hand, if you just want to parade a classic bike and don't plan to lay down any serious miles, you might consider tyres such as the Speedmaster, and/or one of the Safety Mileage tyres, or an Avon AM9 Roadrunner. All these tyres are still very usable on the street (within their limitations). But the Roadrider is a more up-to-the-minute design with modern compounds built to take you far and wide in a cost-effective way.
Here at Sump we use these tyres, and we're offering them in a range of sizes. So if you're buying, check the original fitment for your machine—or, if you've modified a bike, canvass plenty of opinion before you shell out your hard-earned money. But carefully consider that opinion.
Tyres, like brakes, have to be right. If you must skimp, do it with the paint or chrome or something. Right?

WARNING!!!
Top advice before buying motorcycle tyres
How do you know that the tyres you're buying are safe to use? That's a tricky one because tyres have to not only be correctly manufactured, but they also have to be properly stored prior to sale and use. And not all stored tyres are fit for purpose.
We're not just talking about the usual knock-off rubber coming in from the Far East and flogged on the 'net. We're talking about tyres that have, perhaps, been legitimately bought from wholesalers, but then badly stored.
That can mean exposure to too much sunlight. Incorrect racking. Over-long storage. Incorrect temperature control in storage. Chemical damage when in storage. And there are many other potential hazards including delamination, cracking and general decay. Therefore you need to feel confident in the people you're buying from—and that means staying clear of the dodgy dealers and suchlike on the internet.
If you buy cheap—or too cheap—you could be buying a lot of trouble. At Sump, we deal only with a reputable wholesaler. We set a fair price and we stay competitive—with everyone but the dodgy dealers. So either trust us with your business, or don't.
We're constantly looking out for tyre trouble so that you don't have to ride straight into it. And if you've got any doubts or qualms, we want to hear about it asap.

Essential for the road

The first time you have to use this kit, it will convert you to Christianity—or maybe some other religion. Either way, you'll be grateful to someone. Or something. Of course, this won't suit classic bikes with inner tubes. It's purely a tubeless kit—and pretty much everyone with tubeless tyres should have one. What's that? You've already signed up to a breakdown service? Well great. The last time we waited for a recovery van to show up, it took three hours.
Click on the image above, or fish around for a link, and you'll get a bite from our Puncture Repair Kit Buying Page. We wouldn't leave home without one. You shouldn't either.

WAITING FOR YOUR SUMP ORDER?
If you've recently bought a Sump T-shirt, a book, a motorcycle lock, a framed print, a tin wall sign or whatever, and if your order hasn't arrived, you might want to check your email spam box. We regularly find that customers have failed to give the information we need to process the order (size, full address, style, colour, etc).
If there's a query, we make three attempts to contact buyers, and if we get no reply, we cancel the order and return any payment. But that can lead to disappointment, especially if the item is a gift for someone. So if you haven't heard from us within 24 hours of placing your order, please check your spam box, or contact us again.
