Honda CB1100EX 4th October 2016 Retro | 1,140cc | 2016 | Review | Specs ◄PREVIOUS STORY NEXT STORY►
The Honda CB1100EX is to get a face lift for the 2017 biking season. The bike has just been been unveiled at the Intermot Show in Cologne, and isn't exactly leaping into the future, albeit in a retro way. However, it's got a few nips, tucks and tweaks that should keep its core aficionados happy (but probably won't do much to woo newcomers). The DOHC, 1,140cc inline, air-and-oil-cooled four is largely unchanged save for a revision to the intake and some minor changes to the exhaust, both designed to keep the bike on the right side of the emissionaries. The bore is still 73.5mm with a 67.2mm stroke. The compression ratio is 9.5:1. A PGM-FI electronic fuel injection system squirts the juice. Maximum power is 88hp (66kW) @ 7,500 rpm. The maximum torque is 67ft-lbs (91Nm) @ 5,000 rpm. Transmission is still 6-speed via a wet multi-plate clutch (but note that it's unclear if this bike will actually arrive with a slip assist clutch). Starting is, of course, electric.

Stylistically, the fuel tank has had the lower seams removed thereby creating a more organic look (and thereby bringing the bike that much closer to the 2015 concept). The wheels are now 18-inch stainless wires (as opposed to 18-inch chromed wires on the 2016 model, image immediately above). Handling-wise, the suspension has been upgraded to Showa technology front and rear. The kerb weight is listed as 572lbs (260kg). At around ten grand (sterling) for the 2016 model, the CB1100EX hasn't exactly sketched a limitless queue of buyers. But Honda evidently feel that there are a few more wallets still to be squeezed. That said, the price for this new machine hasn't yet been listed, and there's no word on the arrival date. No doubt the reaction to the bike at Intermot will prompt the accountants to come up with an appropriate number.
