Italjet Dragster

Lewis Ashcroft is the man behind www.italjet.co.uk. In 2006, as an ambitious 17-year old, he founded the business. Based in Clowne, Derbyshire, the firm was established to provide spare parts and accessories for the Italian Italjet range of scooters, a brand perhaps most famous for its range of 50cc - 250cc Dragsters featuring forkless front suspension and a space-frame chassis. Boasting over 200,000 items, Ashcroft claims that his business carries the world's largest stock of spares for these near-cult bikes.

But something's changed, and he's upping stakes and pulling out, specifically to Australia where he plans to kick some dust around for a while and consider his options. He might take up residence Down Under, or he might return to Blighty. It's just too early to say.

Currently, all the firm's spares are on offer at discounted prices, but we understand that he'll sell the business as a going concern if a buyer can be found quickly.

So why's he selling? We don't know, which means that your guess is as good as ours.

Italjet was founded in 1959 by Leopoldo Tartarini. Originally based in San Lazzaro, the headquarters of the firm is currently Castel San Pietro Terme, Bologna, Italy. Massimo Tartarini (son of founder Leopoldo) is managing the firm which produces a Korean manufactured scooter and is increasingly involved in electric bicycles (click here for a look at the Italjet Bulldozer concept)

If you want to contact Ashcroft, try www.italjet.co.uk. Note that we've removed the link on this web address to avoid having a dead link. But we're hoping that someone will step forward and take over. These dedicated parts businesses are usually a vital component in the big motorcycle machine, and invariably feature enthusiasts with lots of specialised knowledge. So are there any takers out there?
