The bikes were officially launched in Eisenerz, Austria on 15th May 2017. Following in the wake of the EXC launched last year, these "ground up" redesigns feature a newly developed and patented TPI (Transfer Port Injection) system comprising two fuel-injectors squirting directly into the works. The idea is to eliminate the need for pre-mix fuel and obviate the problem of re-jetting between races at differing environments, etc. The firm tells us these engines are smoother, more refined, yet retain the "feel of a carburetted bike". Features include a KTM E-starter, an "extra-light lithium ion battery", Brembo brakes, a chrome moly frame, a hydraulic clutch, WP suspension, and a new engine management system. The machines will, say KTM, arrive next month (June 2017). Prices to follow. www.ktm.com May 2017
TCX Hero boots You always know which bike in the garage is your favourite. It's the one you most often straddle. Sure, your eyes might tell you that your first love is the Vincent that you exercise maybe two or three times a year. When it's dry. And sunny. Etc. But your practical favourite—i.e. your real favourite—is the BSA Bantam that you ride half a dozen times a week regardless of the weather. Same with footwear. Your eyes might fall on those Gucci loafers in finest alligator, but your everyday heart sees you slipping into those old clogs that you found in the loft when you bought the house. And that's how it is with these Italian made TCX Hero boots. The feet don't lie. [More...] |
We've been reading Peter Henshaw's latest motorcycle buyer's guide, this one aimed at prospective purchasers of air-cooled Boxer twins built between 1969 and 1994 (excluding ST and GS models which are covered by another book). Like all the guides in this series (and we're advised that over 100,000-plus have been sold across the range), it follows much the same formula. Meaning that it's a pretty down-to-earth, grassroots tome that gets you down there on your knees studying the rusty bits, the bits that wear, the bits that need regular servicing, and the bits that you need to especially watch out for. Etc. And that's what a book like this is supposed to do. Right? Trouble is, it's also repetitive and throws up the same facts over and over again. [more...] |
Motech Messenger bag Chances are you're either going to love this bag or have no use for it at all. We're making no promises, mind. Humans are, after all, fickle creatures. And ultimately there's no telling what people might think. Or do. Or buy. But we've been trying this Messenger bag for size, and the conclusion is that like many things in life, its strength is also its weakness. Put another way, there are either (a) too many on-board pockets and compartments, or (b) a bountiful supply of pockets and compartments ideal for stashing that 15-inch laptop, your books, your mobile phone, your passport, your manicure set, your paperback novel, your loose change, your spare toupee and all the other things you might need for that trip down to the shops, or even further afield. EAT SLEEP RIDE REPEAT T-shirt £19.99 This the second edition of these Bobber T-shirts, and they're different from edition one which were printed on grey. Why the change? Well, we received numerous email enquiries asking if we had these tees on black. So eventually we relented and changed the colour (ya gotta keep the customer satisfied, are we right?). Anyway, these shirts sell fast. The new batch is here, but they won't last long. To get yours while it's going, click on the image or the button below. You never know when the production fairy will call it a day...
