▲ 2020 Royal Enfield Classic 500 Tribute Black. We could have featured this motorcycle on Sump's Classic Bike News page. That's because the underlying design and heritage of this machine is, of course, classic. But it's also contemporary and can be viewed as a bona fide up-to-date retro, so we've found a spot for it right here. Either way, it's the end of the line for this model. 1,000 of these bikes will released into the European market with 210 of them aimed at the UK. Aside from the gloss black/matt black livery, there no difference between this model and the standard Classic 500—except, of course, the (dubious?) cachet of being the last gasp. Here's what Royal Enfield has to say about it: "For those who want it all. The power, the fuel efficiency, the reliability and simple, yet drop dead gorgeous classic styling. The classic turns heads not because it wants to but because it can't help it. You will appreciate the beat not just for the music it creates but also for the muted feeling of strength and power that it signifies." Yikes. The price? £5,499.

AMB 001 being tested

We reported on this motorcycle back in November 2019. It's being touted/badged as an Aston Martin, but many people—notably everyday bikers—will perhaps think of it as an upmarket re-imagining of the current Brough-Superior. The model is called a 001. It will be a limited edition run of just 100 bikes. The price is expected to be €108,000, and production is looking to start in the autumn of 2020. Naturally, customers will be at liberty to vary the specification according to their whims and budget. Recently, the 180hp motorcycle—which, incidentally, carries a power to weight ratio of 1hp per kilogram—has been spotted on tests at Pau-Arnos, France, and on video it looks impressive. Confederate to Combat

First it was 'Confederate', then it briefly became 'Curtiss' (or appeared to be in the process of transitioning to that name), and now the dice have fallen on the appellation 'Combat'. Same company. Same heritage. Same bikes. But a new name. A clean name. Washed. Sanitised. Homogenised. Think money-laundering, if you like. Why the change? Public opinion. Or, more accurately, mob opinion. Specifically the Black Lives Matter movement. It seems that with half of the western world currently on the rampage looking for blood over the black slave trade that happened over a century before any of the protesters were born, the movers and shakers at Confederate got the willies and looked for a fresh moniker. Meaning something clean and wholesome. [More...]

Triumph Trekker GT

"Certain types of road salt". That's said to be the reason why Royal Enfield Motorcycles is recalling 15,200 machines in order to replace the brake calipers. Owners or operators of these bikes might experience "unusual [sounds] and in more severe cases [it] can increase brake drag and action."The bikes affected are in the UK, European and Korean markets. And although the RE press release doesn't make it absolutely clear that front and both rear calipers are likely to be affected, the wording of the statement suggests that that is in fact the case. And when we checked with importer Moto GB, they confirmed that that was indeed the case. [More...]

Motorcycle workshirt

Sump workshirt £26.99

All purpose street & garage wear

We spend much of our miserable lives in the garage. Usually we're fixing bikes and stuff, and all too often we're re-fixing the stuff we ought to have fixed properly the first time around.

So it goes.

Anyway, we wanted to increase our product range (that's partly how we fund Sump) and we've been thinking for some time about introducing workshirts and general shirts that we might want to wear when the weather closes in—which is most of the time in the UK. Anyway, this is the result; our first Sump branded garage/all purpose shirt.

The Sump logo is featured above the left-side pocket only (notice how we cunningly avoided saying "breast"?). The image quality is very good and will last the life of the shirt.

We think these are pretty good quality and worth the money. First come, first served, etc.

BSA motorcycle workshirt

BSA M20/M21

workshirt £26.99

All purpose street & garage wear

Seems that plenty of folk love our BSA M20/M21 T-shirt design which features the above roundel. So, to widen the appea we decided to reproduce it on a more formal shirt that you might want to wear in the garage or in the magistrate's court.

The shirts are 100% cotton twill, which means they're tougher than ordinary cotton. We wear these ourselves, and we're perfectly happy with them—and we're nothing if not hard to please. Follow the links and see if they're right for you (Hint: they probably are).

The BSA M20/M21 roundel is featured above the left-side pocket only. And when you wear this, other BSA folk will notice and might even become your friend and take you out for walks and stuff. It happens.

The image quality is very good and will last the life of the shirt. You know you want it, and you know we've got it.
