American truckers
American truckers impressed us greatly. In over 7,000 miles of motoring back and forth across the continent, we didn't have an issue with a single truck driver. Not one. All were courteous and helpful. All behaved with pride and professionalism (whatever that means to you). Tailgating never happened. Signalling was meticulous. Vehicles looked to be in good shape, most being Macks, Kenworths and Internationals—but we spotted a couple of old Whites (White went bust in 1980). European trucks are rarer, but Volvo has made some in-roads. We didn't have CB radio, which was a pity. There's another world out there on the US highways, lonely but compelling.
