Seligman, Arizona
It used to be called Prescott Junction; a crossover railway stop or "switching yard" for local livestock ranchers. There was a Harvey House here too. The Seligman residents spent years persuading the US government to dedicate Route 66 as a historic highway, hence the "birthplace" claim. The town boasts some of the oldest original Route 66 buildings. We remind ourselves that people actually live here. They're not all tourists or travellers and can probably smell us coming, but the relationship is symbiotic. The Seligman Sundries Building is a likely place to stop. Or visit Delgadillo's Snow Cap Drive-In. We glimpse these well known establishments, but we don't stop. We're driving.
