Ranch house living on "66"
In 2016, a typical 2 to 3 bedroom clapboard ranch house in Missouri, USA would cost around $125,000 to $175,000. But as little as $65,000 would get you a decent home with a scrap of lawn front and rear and a place to salute Old Glory. The ranch house dates back to the 1920s, but its roots lie in the Spanish colonial era. Post WW2 the style took off, usually with low slung buildings, a porch at the front, and a garage at the side (or out back). This is how much, if not most, of America lives. The style fell out of fashion in the 1970s, but something of a renaissance is underway. You'll see thousands of such examples along Route 66.
