Get a compass too. It took us a while to notice that the Mustang had a compass built into the dashboard display, and that's a pity because more than once we could have used that. The Route 66 heritage trail does its best to keep you on course. But it switches around a little and you can suddenly find yourself driving miles in the wrong direction before you realise your error. We kept watch on the sun and did what we could. But a compass would have made a lot of difference. It's 500 miles from St Louis to Oklahoma City. We won't do that with what's left of the day. So we start thinking about food and a hotel. Or motel. We see a few motorcycles here and there. They're mostly Harley-Davidsons and Indian on the open road. In the cities, we've seen a few Triumphs and BMWs and some Jap stuff. But not much.
