Winslow, Arizona
Naturally, we're standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona. It's practically the law. This is a small, homely low-rise town of maybe 10,000 people that's milking every juice of Route 66, and a certain pop song recorded by The Eagles (Take it Easy). Local attractions also include the Painted Desert and the Petrified Forest. Plenty of touristy shops. Meteor Crater. And a Flatbed Ford. We can't explore it all, but we wander around in the sunshine and nod and chat to a few people. Meanwhile L.A (and San Francisco) awaits. So we drink our fill and Mustang out. We like Winslow, and we come back this way in a week or so and drink some more. We check the map and the dashboard compass. Route 66 is soon beneath us once more.
