Ash Fork, Arizona
Less than 1,000 people live in Ash Fork. Zettler's Route 66 Store is famous beyond the town limits. Route 66 runs straight through the middle of town, the largest untouched stretch of the road. Ash Fork has a chequered history including the 1885 Fire and the Big Fire of 1977. Hollywood's been here a few times too. In 1907 Fred Harvey built a "Harvey House" here; one of a chain of hotels and restaurants designed to service the needs of the railway traveller. It closed in 1947. The Atlantic & Pacific Railroad passed this way (later the Santa Fe Railroad). We buys some eats and cruise further west.
