Illinois farms
More rain falling. We don't care. The Mustang is warm, dry and comfortable. We're listening to Steely Dan and Creedence Clearwater Revival and other US bands. But we turn on the radio at intervals to hear the voice of America. Country music fills the car. Some of it is old and classic. Much of it is new and unfamiliar. Six sections of the old Route 66 road bed have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We loop off "66" through Dwight, Odell and Pontiac. I-55 is on our right in the distance. Faster traffic gaining ground. Then we're forced back on I-55. Signage is confusing at times. The day is wearing on.
