Fashion conscious people meandering along the sidewalks. Roller blades cutting through the traffic. Sun. Fumes. Pacific air. Pavement cafes. Trendy shops. Workers waving advertising placards. The L.A. buzz. California. We cruise the boulevard and reach the end of the road. A "Route 66 End" sign greets us. We've driven over 2,800 miles, including 711 miles from New York to Chicago. We've arrived. But we're restless. We hang around for a while, visit a Route 66 information shop, check the architecture, then leave the city by way of a brief stop-over in Hollywood. San Francisco is calling us, so we're gone.
