Route 66 via Route 55
Chicago to Springfield, Illinois, is 202 miles. That's around 3 hours of driving. But it's taken us much longer. We stopped here, walked there, ate at a diner, bought gas and meandered around. On 30th April 2016 at 7.00pm we check into the Best Western Hotel at Clearlake Plaza. A double room is $96.31. We're conscious of the need to eke out the money, but expect things to get a little cheaper further west. The room is clean and secure. Nearby is gas, food and a K-Mart. Bloomington, McLean, Lincoln, Williamsville and Sherman came and went. Hard to feel the Route 66 vibe here. It's all too convenient.
